Is there a list for all users of NFC?
The CORAL electronic mail system consists of a set of e-mail lists that are associated with many pieces of equipment listed in the NFC Coral system. The home page for the Coral e-mail lists is http://coral.nfc.umn.edu/mailman/listinfo. The mail system is run by Mailman e-mail software. Coral interfaces with the e-mail program by sending messages to the various e-mail lists, such as subscription requests, and messages to be sent out to the members of e-mail lists.
Types
of Coral e-mail lists
For each piece of equipment, there are two e-mail lists. As an example, consider the equipment with the Coral name “pecvd”. One of the two e-mail lists for the pecvd is called pecvd@coral.nfc.umn.edu. Members of this list include all qualified users of the pecvd. The second list is called pecvd-pcs@coral.nfc.umn.edu, and the members include NFC staff members associated with the pecvd. The –pcs is short for problems/comments/shutdowns. Whenever a problem, comment or shutdown message is created by a user in Coral, the message will be sent to the pecvd-pcs list.
E-mail
list membership
Any user completing shortcourse training on the pecvd will be added to this mail list when the NFC staff trainer qualifies the user in Coral on the pecvd. Users can also join any of the e-mail lists by subscribing through the www site for the list. Select the individual e-mail list of interest at http://coral.nfc.umn.edu/mailman/listinfo and follow the instructions for subscribing.
Confirmation
of list membership
Once qualified in Coral, the e-mail list software manager for the pecvd@coral.nfc.umn.edu will automatically send an email to the qualified user’s e-mail address. This e-mail message will inform the user that they have been added to the mail list pecvd@coral.nfc.umn.edu, and will ask them to confirm their subscription. This can be done by following the instructions in the e-mail message. If the user does not confirm their subscription within 3 days, they will not be added to the e-mail list (but the user will still be qualified in Coral to use the pecvd). If the 3 day period is passed and you still want to join the e-mail list, you can subscribe through the www site for the list. Select the individual e-mail list of interest at http://coral.nfc.umn.edu/mailman/listinfo and follow the instructions for subscribing. Your confirmation will result in a final e-mail welcoming you to the e-mail list, and assign you a password that will give you access to certain features of the e-mail list. With this password you can customize the e-mail list to your preferences.
Past
messages
All messages to the various e-mail lists are archived. To see the past messages, go to the www site for the individual equipment mail list and select the archive link. Note that members of the e-mail list can also see the membership list for that particular mail list.
Why
bother with the e-mail lists?
The e-mail lists are valuable since they will be a primary communication vehicle between NFC staff and users of the NFC laboratories. Information related to equipment status, repair issues, safety, cleanroom shutdowns, process information, as well as general information will be communicated through the use of the various mail lists. If you do not wish to receive the information by e-mail, you could check the archived list of past messages, but this will not provide the up-to-date notification of electronic mail.
All
Users E-mail List
All NFC users are members of the e-mail list called all_NFC@coral.nfc.umn.edu. This list is used for general communications of interest to all users, such as cleanroom shutdown information, facility problems, and NFC administrative information.
