NFC Exploratory Research Project (NERP)
Purpose: The goal of the NERP program is to enable faculty to
collaborate to do exploratory, concept demonstration work that will lead to
securing externally funded research grants.
Structure: NFC will subsidize 50% of the internal rate for
processing and lab access costs for faculty working on a NERP project.
Limitations:
- Programs is only open to University of Minnesota faculty.
- At least two faculty members must jointly propose a project.
- No one can participate in more than one NERP simultaneously.
- NERP is directed toward new projects. NERP applications for
continuations of research already being conducted in NFC will not be accepted.
- NERP projects run 12 months. A six-month extension will be granted
if documentation of a research proposal submitted during the NERP term that
proposes significant, continued use of NFC for the project is provided.
- Total amount of NERP subsidy will not exceed $1,000 per month or a total
of $10,000 on any project.
- The subsidized fees cannot be paid with an NFC Research Incentive account
which are normally awarded to new faculty.
- A student may not participate on more than one NERP with any of the same
faculty members.
Application Procedure: Applications are encouraged at any
time. The application procedures involves filling out a
one-page form. The NFC Director will determine if
the applications meet these guidelines.
